Establishment: Coconut Tree - Bangbang Oriental Foodhall Location: Edware, London Cuisine: Malaysian Halal: Yes Alcohol: No Cost: Meal Exc Drink £8 (Serves 1)
Some of our friends had been raving about the Bangbang Oriental Foodhall (in edgware, london) after their recent visit - what is all the hype you may ask - well bangbang oriental foodhall offers a vast array of unique cuisines from south east asia served from over 20 eateries (not all are halal and some you'll have seafood options) all under one roof.. I hope that got you as excited as it got us! Now we had planned several visit but unfortunately none had ever worked out, then one day recently out of the blue while visiting one of the HFH crew, spontaneously he decided we're going down to the bangbang oriental foodhall to try a halal malaysian place for late lunch - I guess it had to be fate!
It's unbelievable to me but this was actually our first time trying malaysian food. It still baffles me how we have never tried malaysian food before, especially as it has so many similarities and influences from pakistani/indian cuisines but also that there are many malaysian restaurants around west london that I've been seeing for years but never visited. So, we were both filled with excitement like little kids throughout the journey to lunch.
We entered the foodhall to the hustle and bustle that of a south east asian food street, large shared tables and casual dining; this might be too intense for some but it is a similar to the feel and environment of the famous asian food streets. After exploring all of the eateries, we headed to Coconut Tree (one of a few halal eateries) to try some delicious malaysian cuisine. We ordered the Malaysian Chicken Laksa Curry meal, which was accompanied with Jasmine Rice, Boiled Egg, Carrot & Pineapple Pickle, Anchovies, Chutney & Roasted Peanuts.

Though I know that malaysian cuisine has many influences from the region, including india/pakistan, it still had such a unique flavour and richness to the curry. The chinese and thai influences showed with all the different textures amongst the plethora of side accompaniments. I thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful of this delicious laksa curry from Coconut Tree at the bangbang oriental foodhall. The different flavours, textures as well as the variety of culinary influences made for an aromatic, flavourful and truly delicious meal. At around £8, the chicken laksa curry was good value for money, however, unfortunately you can't buy drinks from all of the eateries and they have separate places for you to buy a variety of drinks which add to your cost.
I definitely recommend a visit! Hopefully I'll be returning soon to try more malaysian dishes as well as other asian cuisines.
